The Week on the tours: Three birdies on the first three holes was more than enough for Vijay Singh to cruise to victory at the ATT Pebble Beach Pro-am. Vijay looked relaxed as he knocked down pins all day. The victory gave him his 12th consecutive top ten finish, joining Jack Nicklaus as the only other player in history to do so. Vijay Singh is arguably the best golfer in the world at present, and where is Tiger Woods. In my opinion Tiger should be at Pebble for one of the best tournaments at one of the best golf courses in the world. It makes it hard to judge who is the best golfer right now because Tiger simply does not play enough. Vijay Singh is probably already a lock for the money title again if he stays injury free, because he plays so much. Maybe he doesn't like Pro-ams but he has been at Pebble in the past, maybe he is too tied down by sponsorship deals. I don't know, but I would like to see him play more, especially now that he has some legitimate challengers Ernie Els picked up his third straight win at the Heineken Classic in Australia. After being totally control of the tournament after an opening round 12 under 60 he was six over par on the front nine on Sunday while Adam Scott charged to within one shot with a 67. Els was able to recover and shoot 4 under on the back to hold on fro the one shot victory. Els commented on feeling helpless on the front nine, can anyone relate? Jimmy Walker won the first Nationwide tour event of the year with a wire to wire win in Panama. He had a five victory over Tom Scherrer on a course that only allowed three players to shoot under par. Laura Davies will play in ANZ Championship next week in Australia and will become the first woman to play in an Australasian/European tour sanctioned tournament.

Two avid golfers were sitting in the clubhouse. One said to his friend, "I'm sorry to hear that your uncle passed away last week. I understand it was while you two were playing golf. I hear you carried him all the way back to the clubhouse. That must have been hard for you considering he weighed over two hundred pounds." "Oh,
carrying him wasn't that hard," said his friend, sadly. "The
difficult part was putting him down ... and then picking him up again
after each stroke." - Roger Bates
Long Putts: The key on the long putts is always speed. You are rarely going to make a put of ten feet or more (even the pros make a low percentage of these), so you want to make sure that you are close to the hole for the next one. Speed is even more important than line on the longer putts especially if they break considerably. People don't practice long putts enough. A good way to do this is to practice before your round on the practice green. Stand at one end and putt balls to the farthest fringe, the goal being to get it as close to the fringe line as possible. By hitting to the fringe instead of a target you focus only on the speed. It doesnt hurt to practice your shorter putts like this as well. You then leave the green to your round without the possible frustration of missing several putts on the practice green before your round. For
