Tour Results, Schedules, and News:

Finally the build up was worth it at the Ford Championship at Doral. The current dream Sunday matchup with Tiger Woods trying to reclaim number one, and Phil Mickelson attempting to go wire to wire for his third stroke play victory in a row. It was a back and forth, head to head battle. When Tiger eagled the 12th with an amazing 280 yard shot, Phil came right back with two birdies of his own. After narrowly missing a putt, Mickelson came to the 18th one shot behind Woods who drained a fifteen footer on 17. The drives on 18 were identical but neither could hit the green with their second. Phil had a makeable chip for the tie which lipped out, and Tiger made his four footer for the win. If only every Sunday on tour could be like this. This was probably the most exciting final round matchup since Phil lost the US Open to Payne Stewart a few years ago.

The weekend belonged to the best players in the world all over the world. Vijay Singh finished tied for third at Doral thanks to continued problems putting with the short putter (does anyone know why he changed from the belly putter?). Meanwhile in Dubai, Ernie Els eagled the 72nd hole to gain a one stroke victory with Westwood, Montgomerie, and Jimenez close behind.

Annika Sorenstam showed up for a tournament in Mexico and won of course. She came from behind for the three shot win over Karrie Webb.

In sadder news, Jack Nicklaus' grandson Jake apparently passed away in a hot tub drowning accident. About 500 people showed up for the memorial service on Sunday. Our condolences go out to father Steve and the Nicklaus family.

"This driver looks great at setup. It tends to have a slightly lower trajectory, so I recommend a regular shaft and higher loft, unless you have a super fast swing."

Tip of the week:

Tips for Increasing Distance:

After going to the section on equipment and looking at your club and ball characteristics, the next thing to do is work on your flexibility. The fitness section can give you great advice on how to do this.

The key to distance is in the resistance you can generate between your hips and shoulders. Larger shoulder to smaller hip turn will generate more distance. A simple way to start this is by making sure your left arm (right arm for lefties) stays straight on the way back. If your arm breaks you lose the coil effect. Only go back as far as you can with keeping the arm straight and work on your flexibility to get a bigger shoulder turn.

Casting the club from the top can reduce distance amoung other things. Make sure you come slowly from the top and keep your wrist angle as long as possible, so you generate your speed at the bottom of the swing. I see too many people taking the club back really slow and then whipping it down from the top losing all their momentum before the get to the ball. Taking it back long is more important than slow. The irony of the golf swing is that you will hit it farther the slower you think you are swinging.

Try the POWERSTIK to increase distance, accuracy, and consistency
