The
Week on the tours:
Adam Scott's
"Tiger like" swing held up today to give him the title at the
Players Championship at Sawgrass. He managed a one shot victory over a
charging Padraig Harrington who was 6 under on the day. Scott's two under
70 was solid enough to hold on while his superstar challengers could not
put any pressure on him. Vijay Singh, Tiger Woods, and Ernie Els could
not even shoot par today, and Phil Mickelson could only manage 1 under.
I thought Els would do well today, but he shot a disappointing 78.
Scott's victory
made him the youngest winner ever at this event, and marked the tenth
anniversary of his childhood hero, Greg Norman's victory.
Here's how
our picks finished for the week:
- Scott
Verplank -1 T26
- Ernie
Els - T26
- Fred Couples
+8 missed cut
- Craig
Perks +5 missed cut
- Chad Campbell
+1 T42
Annika Sorenstam
will have to find a new goals for the season as she no longer has a chance
to win the ladies grand slam. Grace Park is the only one who can achieve
that this season after winning the first major of the LPGA tour. She managed
a one stroke victory over fellow Korean Aree Song at the Kraft/Nabisco
Championship in Rancho Mirage. Fourteen year old Michell Wie made news
finishing fourth.

Tip
of the week:
Chipping:
Chipping
is not as complicated as so many make it. For most people the challenge
is making sure that they catch the ball clean without hitting the ground
first. Too many people flip their wrists trying to get the ball off the
ground only to "chunk it".
The
biggest key to chipping effectively is to keep your hands ahead of the
club head, and keep them "firm" (do not break your wrists).
You want to hit down on the back of the ball "popping" it forward.
Putting the ball back in your stance can help ensure that you hit the
ball first.
If
you need to get the ball in the air to clear some hazard, use the loft
of the club by hitting it the same way and letting the loft of the club
get the ball in the air. The more you try to lift the ball with your hands
the more likely you are to blade it.
Judge
the distance of your chips by the length of your backswing and the club
you use. Remeber to keep your weight slightly more on your front foot
to help ensure a downward swing.

*Great new weighted swing trainer that I use. Increase your distance
and improve your tempo. I have gained 20 yards on my drives in three
months after an injury took those yards off a few years ago.

Kallassy
Swing Magic Training Club save
60% only $38.95
|
This
was one of the first swing trainers I ever tested, and I thought
it was the best way to get the feel for what your left arm should
be doing in the golf swing (right arm for lefties). This device
will definitely increase your power because it teaches your arms
how to develop tension in the swing. The only drawback is that it
is not a natural movement for the other arm. The bonus of this device
is that you can hit balls with it. While I still think the Powerstik
is the best device on the market right now, The Kallasy
Swing Magic is a close second for developing power. You can't
lose with this incredible price.
