Sergio Garcia and M.A. Jimenez fought hard for the home team but they came up one short to England's 8-under on Sunday at the World Cup. England was represented by Luke Donald and Paul Casey who played superbly in the alternate shot format on Sunday.

Tiger Woods finally won a stroke play event for the first time since October 2003. He easily won by eight shots at the Dunlop Phoenix Open for his first win in Japan. Other notables in the field included K.J. Choi, Robert Allenby, Craig Parry, Thomas Bjorn, and Carlos Franco.

Annika Sorenstam capped an incredible year with her eighthvictory of the year at the Season ending ADT Championship. She edged Christie Kerr in a playoff.

At Kiawah Island the U.S. kept their hold of the UBS Cup for over 40 players from the U.S. and the rest of the world. Fred Couples, Scott Hoch, and Colin Montgomerie were among the player's competing.

Tip of the week:

Maintaining Concentration:

Fact: The average golfer loses 5-10 shots per round simply due to lack of concentration.

The U.S. open is probably more a test of endurance and concentration than any other tournament. One lapse could mean disaster in Open conditions where one bad shot can cause severe penalties. The winner is always someone who can concentrate the best for four rounds.

For recreational golfers especially, this is difficult, because it is also a social game. What makes this more difficult is when you hit bad shots. We lose our focus on the present and start thinking about past and future shots. We start trying to make up for bad shots rather than focussing on the shot at hand.

One of my favorite suggestions for learning concentration is to go play by yourself first thing in the morning with no scorecard. No distractions, no score, just each shot without worrying about results. Do this every once in while to learn how it should feel to be fully present and in a state of concentration.

Four to five hours is a long time to maintain concentration on anything, so you must learn how to build your concentration before each shot and be able to turn it off between shots. Having a good routine is critical for this. Start your routine at least ten steps before getting to your ball.

Another valuable method for concentration is to visualize every shot before you hit it. Even if you only have time to do this while you are walking to the ball, try to see every shot in your mind's eye before you actually hit it.
